Petr Jerabek selfportrait

I was born in 1979 in Czechoslovakia. Being a child, unaware of any political struggle, I had a happy childhood with countless experiences exploring nature and life in the countryside on weekends and holidays. As I was growing up and begin to study electronic and computer science, I was in contrast to technology, drawn to photo exhibitions and paintings that sparked my own passion for photography. I realized the endless possibilities and freedom of expression in photography, the way we look at the world and the impact of a single image to our perceptions and feelings.

I'm especially drawn to photojournalism and documentary work personally, but there are really no limits. I enjoy greatly to work on artistic project, location photography and portraiture. I'm easy around people, enjoy greatly became almost invisible as I become accepted to be around and where boundaries melt.

I'm rarely leaving the house without a camera, I've received several awards in various photography contests, with a major success in Czech Press Photo 2005 - a photo of Cambodian children won the “Happiest Moment of 2005”. I work as a freelance photographer for local newspaper Jewish weekly, non-profit organizations and individuals. I teach basic essence of photography privately. I feel confident in many areas of photography through my experience with newspaper assignments, freelance work and my personal projects.

I've had amazing experiences traveling in Asia, New Zealand and Europe before coming to USA that had enormous impact on my perception of life and opened my eyes compared to life of the western society lifestyle. Environmentally conscious, I enjoy nature and I'm deeply committed to find ways to preserve its purity. I'm puzzled by how we humans “care” (so poorly) for this planet and behave ignorantly towards each other.

I deeply believe in acceptance of life as an endless experience. We've to experience bitterness as natural part of sweetness. We have to experience one to enjoy the other. Accept it and be free. Open mind and positive can change your life - the world you live in.
